hiya folks! hope this finds all of you well. i think many of you have been able to keep up with me via my travel blog. thank you for your thoughts, emails and well wishes. i'm having a wonderful time.

I don't know much about the general topic but let's think of it as the cultural anthropology of education. Using that phrase in google turns up a fair amount that might get you started. At the U. Texas Austin Joel Scherzer teaches classes in linguistic anthropology about sort of "everyday life" dialog structures and rituals; I'll bet he might be able to steer you toward work in this field. (I took a course with him and have a great book on linguistic forms of play all over the world).

Another term that may get you somewhere is educational ethnography.

I'd look into books on teaching languages, especially books on teaching culture and pragmatics.
