I apologise if I overuse the word 'fuck' in this post. It's writing Killjoys fic, getting the language is like make up some weird shit + insert 'fuck' every other sentence. Thank you to everyone who uploaded the radio rip of 'Na Na Na' so I could hear it properly. I am delighted with this track, hot damn. (Also, pondering the lyric 'eight legs ( Read more... )

Ooooh Martin McDonagh :D Such a talented, talented man *hearts on him*

I saw MTC's Poor Boy last year, and thought it was hands down one of the FINEST THINGS I'd ever seen at a theatre. And Melbourne Arts Centre? YUMMY!!! I really fancied MTC's Richard III earlier this year.

Oooh, I wish I'd seen Poor Boy! I can only afford to go to 2-3 plays per year and I had to miss out on that one.

Apparently Richard III was weirdly unpopular at the start of its run, which I just found odd. Didn't get to see it, but I've heard goot things. From the people who actually went. They're doing Hamlet next year and my little brother wants to go. Surprising but interesting.

I want to go to Don Parties on and Earnest, obviously (ace play + Geoffrey Rush + I can't tell you how much I love seeing men in drag) and I'm tossing up between The Joy of Text and the one about the invention of the vibrator for my third.

I was only in the city for about 5 days but was dying to see whatever was on. I was very lucky with Poor Boy, I've seen nothing like it before or since.

Keep me updated with what you get to see, if I can't see the theatre I want I will experience them vicariously XD

I am SO EXCITED. But I think after I see it I won't be able to see it ever again because it won't be Geoffrey Rush. It's another twelve months before it's actually on so it'll be a looongish wait but mmm so excited.

PILLOWMAN AHHH. Everyone hated it? I kind of loved its TERRIFYING FUCKEDUPNESS. I've only read it, though, haven't seen it!

I was actually mystified because I haven't seen it, haven't read it and still don't have a clue what it's about. It kind of sounds more like the theatre company didn't advertise it that well and people had expectations that didn't really match what it was like.

Feminism has problems re: excluding/being nasty to people other than middle-upper class white cis women, and those need some serious assessing...or addressing and dealing with, to use better wording. But framing the entire concept as one big global Fail or Not Fail is stupid. In fact, framing it that way seems an excuse to just stamp failed/approved on it and ignore those problems, either as nonexistent or something we're stuck with. People always want the easy answers like that :p.

One of the strange things about the whole night was that I thought the best speech was by Monica Dux, who co-wrote a book in 08 that I had major problems with for all those reasons: the feminist 'problem' is just an image problem and we need to appeal to young, attractive, successful women more. UM, NO, sorry if my sexual orientation and body hair a bad for your public image but my feminism is valuable too, grumble grumble. But she was pretty on the money with "We've achieved a lot but there's clearly a lot more work to do and we should do it," and I think maybe she's taken some of the need-to-be-self-critical stuff on board since 08.

I missed two of my seven plays this year because of hospital, but OMG MTC. I've been a subscriber since I did a secondment from Ticketmaster to their subs department, and I used to only do three plays but this year I did seven (well, five, because of the two I missed, but anyway).

I've only looked briefly at the list online; I'll decide when I get my booklet in the mail and can sit down and go through it with Danny. I definitely want to see 'Joy of Text' and 'In the Next Room' though.
