Senate results

No matter what happens, we're looking at a hung Parliament. I don't think I have much to say about it yet; it's still cooking. It's very different to the Tasmanian or UK elections; those weren't unexpected the way this was and were due to the rise of a third party rather than a close TPP result and a rise in independents. Looking to that is also ( Read more... )

We're so screwed either way really. Mexico's looking better and better. And Nick Xenophon did run? I was looking for him on my thingy and didn't see him... oh well, he's quite adept at getting issues heard in the media.

That senate does look rather nice doesn't it - good on the greens for doing so well this time round.

Nick Xenophon wasn't up this year; he's on a 2007-2013 term, so he won't be up for re-election until next time.

There are a couple of things that could happen regarding the upper house. Hung parliament is unavoidable but there are a couple of seats currently declared which may go back to 'in doubt' when we start counting pre-poll and postal votes because they have such large percentages. We may also end up in deadlock and have to go straight to another election.

I love elections. They're like Christmas, if Christmas came once every three years and involved suspense. I CANNOT HANDLE ANOTHER ONE. This is like the AFL Grand Final ending in a draw.

Yeah, it'd be interesting to see how the votes would go if there was a re-election. Good to know about Nick Xenophon - it seems weird that he'd give up politics.

I spent the evening at the Whitlams gig where Tim Freedman had to be pried away from the elction results and we had a Julia Gillard impersonator who came out every so often to report election results. Was all very fun - I think if it happens again I'm gonna find a Whitlams gig to be at for it!

I'm excited just to know someone who was at that gig! I was secretly hoping for an August 28 election so that I could be at the Whitlams on election night. But this way I will probably get angry Tim comforting me with all the songs from Little Cloud about how much he hates John Howard, so that's nice too.

I'd guess the anti-Conroy sentiment would result in below-the-line votes, and I wouldn't have thought those votes have been fully counted.

I just want to divorce myself from all proceedings as far as Australian politics is concerned. I'm not feeling an overwhelming urge to rush back to the country at this point.

A hung parliament would only have been okay with me if the balance of power rested with the Greens. So not happening. *sigh*

Boo and Hiss.

I was glad Fielding lost his seat. But the DLP? I think we accidentally the senate.
