Picspam/Primer: Princess Tutu

Princess Tutu is a fandom that I see get attention about twice a year: during halfamoon and Yuletide. Granted, most of my fandoms are Western live-action shows, but I still don't see Princess Tutu getting nearly the amount of love it deserves. I don't know if it's that it's an anime, or that it involves ballet, or that it does not at all shy away from its ( Read more... )

Rue and Ahiru's friendship is one of my most favourite things in the world.

And the lamp is my favourite oneshot character, so seeing her in here delights me.

Me too! I really wanted to go into some more depth, but I didn't want to spoil anything - and some of the things that happen are so lovely when they're unexpected.

thanks for this picspam. So it is two seasons? Is it commonly available?

It's two thirteen-episode seasons, and it's available as a boxset for the entire thing: on Amazon. I bought it before it was repackaged, for around $40, and it was worth every penny - and it's cheaper now. :D

Glorious, totally gorgeous -- I'm already a huge fan, but it's nice to see the love.

What really convinced me that I needed to watch Princess Tutu was the tagline for the two seasons -- which I cannot find in direct quote, but I'll try to paraphrase properly, "Those who embrace their fate will be granted happiness. Those who defy their fate will be granted glory." That, and (spoilers seriously, don't click if you don't want at least vague spoilers) the Hall Om Mig AMV.

I hadn't heard that used as a tagline before, but isn't it one of Edel's lines? Either way, it's so perfect for the show.

And that fanvid got me into the series, too! (And the person who got me into the series, and the three people that I got into the series...) I was tempted to link to it, but someone recced it on the comm this go-round already so I figured that would be enough. I still watch it every now and then - it's so amazing!

Totally convincing! The combination of charm and hilarity in this post totally does it. (Really, you had me at Because this is a fairytale, Ahiru is also a duck.) And I say this as someone whose closest brush with anime has been The Last Airbender. So thanks!

I love ATLA too! For a lot of the same reasons that I love Princess Tutu, actually - it does the same sort of thing where when it's sad it's heartbreaking, when it's funny it's hilarious, when it's charming you just want to hug it all the time, et cetera. They're both just really fantastic shows.

This was fantastic! Thank you for doing this! Princess Tutu is an amazing show that really doesn't get enough attention.

Rue is perhaps my favourite fictional character in existence. I love her Ahiru's friendship. It's one of the elements that make this show so remarkable.
