Is this a novel in progress, branching off from the play? Or just some stuff you write when you need a break from playwriting?

It's all tied to how I do character development. I do lots of questionnaire-type dealies, & then the characters go on strike & make me write these stories about their lives. This story, which I wrote a very long time ago, is backstory for The Opera Hurts.

This is lovely - the antipathy toward golf (with which I can relate), the desire to be with someone else, even though she realizes it's not the best idea, Smalley's instant interest in Hollyhock (love the name, btw). All wonderful. I look forward to seeing more, if more is to be had.

Thankyoumuch. It was quite a kick out of it when she told me her name. I kept saying, "Holly?" And she kept rolling her eyes & saying, "No, Hollyhock." I don't think she thinks very highly of me. :-O
