I am one happy voter today. Woo-hoo democracy!

Random election-related thoughts:
  • You know what was cool? I went to bed just after Reuters and CNN called the election for Obama. I woke up in the morning, and Obama was still President-elect! No one contested the whole thing; no one demanded a nation-wide recount of hanging chads; no one asked their ( Read more... )

And Florida. We stupidly put an amendment on our constitution, too.

I'm really ashamed of my state for that (though pleased that we managed to go blue).

"Obviously pleased though I am at Obama's victory, I'm pretty impressed with the dignity McCain showed in his concession speech. He lost with far more grace than Bush did either of the times he lost."

You know? I was thinking the same thing last night. I also noted the crowd reactions in both Arizona and Chicago when their candidate brought up the name of the "other guy." During McCain's concession speech his supporters still booed Obama, but when the President-elect (yay! I can call him that!) brought up McCain during his victory speech his supporters cheered/applauded McCain's service. I'd like to think that that makes us somehow "better" people, but it could be we're just better winners than they are loosers.

1. I think you mean "That One," not "This Guy."

2. They didn't need to get MN drivers licenses to vote! They could have gotten a recent electricity bill, or had one of their neighbors vouch for them! Oh well, I hope they got to vote anyway.

1. Did you know that the press guys traveling with Obama usually just referred to him as "he"? "Is he on board yet?" "He's on his way." You know: like Jesus!

2. OK, I told the way abbreviated version of the story. 4 guys lived together in a house, and the bills are in the name of the 4th guy, who had voted absentee in WA. They'd brought student loan bills (which don't count), and the only one in their own names that does count (cell phone) they receive electronically and hadn't thought to print out. Don't know why the guy didn't send them home to print those out. They also said (which was simultaneously funny and sad), "We've only lived here since August, so we don't know our neighbors." After 5 minutes of that, sending them to get their MN licenses was honestly their best option.

Yeah, as pleased as I am overall, it pisses me off immensely that the Dems basically abandon FL-12 to Putnam the putz.

Here's to two more years of me calling/emailing/petitioning only to be told that "his constituency doesn't agree." Dumb me, I thought I was part of his constituency by virtue of living in his district. My mistake.

I think it would be more accurate to describe me as a person who is now severely emboldened to envision myself up a quitting plan.
