I'm glad he never really stood a chance to get the nomination. What the hell would we have done with a president who spent the next four years planning for the last big terrorist attack?

He did freeze. In fairness, the media surrounding him also froze... they wouldn't let him talk about anything else for at least two years.

I have never been a fan of his - I lived in NYC during his first term when he "cleaned up the streets of Manhattan" by employing more cops to round up all the undesirables and relocate them to Harlem. Believe me, he wasn't popular with the average, hard-working New Yorker. But the wealthy and the tourists loved him.

That said, I can't say that he handled the aftermath of 9/11 badly either. I'm not sure anyone could have handled it better without having been through something like it before.

Still would never vote for him for president, however.
