Make mine a double. Better yet, make it a half_double

I've gone and done it now. After weeks - nay, months! - of faffing about, I've changed my lj user name to half_double. Why did I go and do such a thing? Well, when I started this journal over 5 years ago, the name beths_stanley was chosen as something of a joke. Indeed, the whole journal was something of a joke. In the intervening years I've gotten

That's awesome. You were one of the people who mentioned liking the name when I first mentioned that I was considering it, and I thought, Clearly, aberrant1 knows her crochet stitches. How very cool that you just liked the sound of it!

Yeah, it's bizarre. The single is the shortest stitch. The double, despite the clever name, is more than twice the height of the single. So then we have the half-double, which seems like it ought to be, well, half the height of the double, but if you put them side-by-side, you'd see that the half-double is really more of a three-quarters-double. But that would be an awkward lj name, so I'm glad they didn't name it that.

There are also trebles, double-trebles, and triple-trebles. Which are just ridiculous. Who wants a crochet stitch that tall, really?
