A new contract... with a reduced salary?

Dec 13, 2014 23:43

Sergio Ramos posted an announcement on his social media accounts which reads: "With all my respect and affection to Sacchi, I am not worried about my renewal. Money has never moved me. My happiness is above anything."
He then quotes Benjamin Franklin: "He that is of the opinion money will do everything may well be suspected of doing everything for ( Read more... )

also i agree with sacchi but.... the repercussions of this conversation going public, though.... how it paints sergio as someone who's only after the money (which forced him to make that post in the first place).... and thirsty english clubs must be salivating over this piece of information, looking to offer him the moolah that will convince him to leave madrid. but thing is, and rene ramos has said this before, history shows how big clubs have always offered lucrative deals to sergio and always, he has stayed put in the end.

(also my friend who's watching the barfa match right now told me that her comms were already talking about the situation re: sergio's contract.... oh what joy.)

ugh, this is such unnecessary media drama for us right now. i agree that sergio deserves more money, but why would sacchi make this statement now? it's not a good look, as you said.

I think if anyone really is painted negatively (or ought to be) it is Sacchi. Sergio deserves everything & more RE: getting a better offer on his contract (which is how I feel about Marcelo all the damn time) so having to see Ramos settle for less than he's worth is really a slap in the face. Sergio has gotten better and better and it is pretty effing clear that this club is home for him. I feel that the assholes are the individuals in charge (lookin' at you, Perez) who are really taking a neoliberal political stance in the idea that "economic growth greatly outweighs all the consequences and stress of other factors." when it comes to players who've earned the bargaining chips to call the shots on whether they agree with their pay. Sending the message that Sergio isn't worth the money really irritates me because it just sends this obvious message that they DGAF about paying you unless you're a Galáctico/cash cow (but TBF Cris is a cash cow but he's earned that privilege to call shots on his contract as well, so people need to sit the ( ... )

Strange. I don't really get why Real would lower his money. I mean they are richer than ever and Ramos' header definitely helped!
Unless he actually wants to leave to try himself in a new league, I guess we're safe.

Lowering the salary of the second captain and the one who gave us la decima is so disrespectful even if he doesn't care about the money at all. I can't imagine him feeling okay about it. If he takes it and stays how would he feel about it in the long run? The players make tons of money but you want to feel loved and secure at your workplace and that's not the way to do it.

I hope he gets a raise.

But why on earth would the club lower the vice captain's money? It's not like they are hard up or something.

And why would Sacci say something like this in the first place - when he knew what it would start?

Also, imho our beloved Pony really deserves to be paid more.

Real Madrid. We live for drama. - that's our unofficial motto btw.

it is disrespectful due to the last events. probably it's about the money they'll be putting on the bernabéu?
i don't know

i think they are taking a shot because they know sergio will be the last one to leave because of money alone buuuuuut... it's not something i want to be seen in the news, specially about sergio.

and also: why would sacchi talk about it publicly? am i missing something?

He visited the team during one of their training sessions recently so he shared his experience there in the interview. He talked about the deal with Sergio and how Carlo explained to the team how they could beat Celta. Maybe he mentioned the conversation with Sergio because he wanted to make a point about what happened to Kaka.
