by now, you've probably heard that Sandro Rosell, the president of barca, has been forced to resign over shadiness regarding the club's signing of neymar this past summer. if you haven't, here's a good summary of what allegedly happened: ( Read more... )

I like the sass in our first statement though:
1. The statement that tries to absurdly involve the president of Real Madrid in the judicial proceedings initiated by a complaint made by an FC Barcelona socio against then president Sandro Rosell is completely false.

Also:
"barca would never report racism on the pitch"
ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS GUY?

Muchas muchas muchas gracias dios que no soy culé.

(Also you asked for details from Spanish speakers. You've basically reported everything! This is what I've gotten out of the whole scandal as well. Great post.)

ha, right? i mean, i am fully prepared to be proven wrong about this, but it really seems like a reach to suggest that there had to be some sort of madrid misconduct in order for the neymar deal to come under investigation -- hell, it was a barca socio who filed the paperwork in the first place! i feel like, after all the awkward and gross stuff that our poor press statement writers have had to justify in the recent past, they were so excited to not have to worry about anything like that that they just let themselves go nuts.

yeah, bartolomeu was so gross during that whole ordeal. here's the full quote of what he said, in case you didn't click the link:
"[W]e would not do this. We don't do it and we won't do it. We respect what happens on the field and we won't get involved with what happens on the field. It appears that Madrid is not doing this and they are losing this señorío that the club has always had. I don't want to talk about the issues of a club that is not mine, but I will just say that we would never do it because it ( ... )

it seems like butthurt at its finest tbh. i don't even know how they'd even substantiate that claim, but i guess anytime something goes wrong for barça it's easy to point the finger at madrid.

also, have you read this marca blog yet?
some beautiful excerpts:
"We are now witnessing the umpteenth and most hilarious twist in the incurable 'Culé' martyr complex - a scourge which not even the miracle named Messi is capable of healing."
and
"It turns out that Florentino can change Barça's presidents with a click of his fingers. Madrid, Barça's Mordor, controls all."

the last paragraph is a killer though.

I clicked the link, I can't even comprehend why he'd think it was ok to say that. UGH.

I loled at our statement, I have to admit.

It's a little prissy :)

If we'd ignored it, it wouldn't be news, just some idiot radio station.

Anyway, EVERYTHING about this amuses me like hell!

yeah, but the accusation is so absurd that making it news just makes barca look bad. and i'm okay with being prissy if that's the outcome XD

I get that they're pissed that their dirty games came to light. but to dig out skeletons from 60 years ago is just pathetic.
And of course, it's allways Real Madrid's fault.

Sid Lowe did a pretty thorough rundown of this on his podcast (which also has RMTV's Phil Kitromilides and is pretty good in general): https://soundcloud.com/thespanishfootballpodcast/the-spanish-football-podcast-2

Lowe's point is that Barca kind of shot themselves in the foot by being secretive about all those side deals--if they were really legit transactions there was no need to hide them, and being upfront might have prevented people from getting suspicious and wanting to dig deeper. Of course I think they sound shady as fuck, but Barca would hardly be the first team to employ creative bookkeeping...

And loooool at implying Perez pulled strings to push this thing through the courts. Y'all make your own trouble, friends.

The lawyer of the FCB socio that filed the complaint has gone on Spanish TV and stated that there was no one from Madrid involved in the lawsuit...
