How often are there yaoi couples with the same hair color? From what i can remember most of them one has black and another has blond or at least brown.
Pairs with the same hair color are rare. Even if one color illustration depicts a pair of brunettes or a pair of blondes, then the hair will still vary in shade. Because this is how the picture looks better and the author points out the difference in the worldview of the characters.
Their respective personalities are then typically defined as follows: The fair-haired partner is the "good" one: younger, bright, hopeful, enthusiastic, naive, helpful, innocent, frankness, openness, inventiveness, ignorance of proper etiquette, tends to follow the rules. The dark-haired partner is the "bad" one: older, moody, testy, serious, cynical, reserved, well-mannered, manipulative, often relishes in Angst and their Dark and Troubled Past, tends to break the rules and snap.
That's what i think. It makes me wonder how likely Fei x Yoh is. They both have black hair. Based on hair color mikhail x fei is more likely based on hair color. Of course sensei still make yohx fei a pair. If it ends up mikhailx fei i would feel bad fror yoh and if it ends up the opposite i would feel bad for mikhail. There is also the possibility he wont end up with a partner.
I hope that in the end, Feilong will find love. And I'm rooting for Mikhail in this fight. Yoh is a good man, but he is too passive, in my opinion. It seems to me that feelings for Feilong helped Yoh to become freer and bolder. So I'm not sad for him.
In "Viewfinder", it seems that only a couple of Yoh and Feilong don't match this trope. Their hair looks and describes very dark. And we did not see color illustrations.
In the Mikhail/Feilong pair, Mikhail corresponds to the “good” partner, and Feilong to the “bad” one. In the Asami/Takaba pair, Asami corresponds to the “bad” partner, and Akihito to the “good” one. In the Asami/Feilong pair, Asami will be a “good” partner, and Feilong will be a “bad” partner, etc.
The Fair-haired partner often has to push at the Dark-haired partner to even get the relationship going in the first place. There's often a reason lurking in the Dark-haired partner's past to explain their hesitance, be it a failed relationship, abuse from their family, or simple shyness. Other times, the Dark-haired partner is just testier and not necessarily angsty. They may just be easily frustrated with their hyperactive partner's antics.

"Bad" and "good" in quotation marks, figuratively, of course. The differences are indicated above.
