A spectre is haunting Europe - the spectre of Tour de France

There are few things more dull than hour upon hour of bicycling as a spectator sport. Yet we're treated every year to an eternity spent in that television Limboland that is Tour de France.

That's beautiful.

We have a wonderful DVD-rental store here in town. They don't just carry the recent big Hollywood releases, but old classics, old not-so-classics, indy films, documentaries, all kinds of stuff from all over the world. Anyone who can't find more that they'd like to see than they have time to watch must not enjoy seeing moving images on a screen.

There's one prominent but dusty shelf that showcases the owner's particular obsession: bicycle racing. The only thing more pointless than watching the Tour de France is renting a DVD of a bicycle race you've never heard of from ten years ago. I honestly think nobody has ever rented from that shelf. And yet it's there.

Jeeze! :-D That's awesome. A monument to folly.

Sounds like a great place though. We just have a Blockbusters. many an appallingly bad horror movie has been rented from there on hung-over afternoons.

That's Rentertainment is indeed a great place.

I just discovered they talk about the cycling DVDs in their FAQ!

Q: One question: Why cycling videos?
A: One word: Because. Actually, bicycle racing is one of the most exciting sports ever. Try one if you haven’t already. That’s Rentertainment has darn near every DVD available - almost 100 in stock right now! To buy your own cycling films check out World Cycling Productions. For a list of films that are somewhat related to cycling (but not just race footage) check out That's Rentertainment's Pocket Pal Guide to Cycling Films page. Also, for some links about cycling in Champaign County check out our CCC page.

That's dedication. :-) I can't fault them for loving it, I guess.
