For a couple of miserable years I lived in the suburbs of Detritus, Michigan. It was the Motor City with a vengeance. The Ford kids beat up the Chevy kids. My first car with power windows was a 1990 Mazda 626LX that I bought new. I told the broker: 'white, A/C, automatic, and that's it.' They called me a couple of days later and all they could find had alloy rims and moon roofs, which I bought. I quite liked that car, though when it started hitting end of life it was really racking up repair bills. I think my dad had a Caprice Classic with power everything before I had my Mazda, but Caprice Classics were power everything even at the base model, if you wanted fewer luxuries, you bought an Impala. I got no options with my current car, a 2005 Toyota Matrix AWD, though I wish I had gotten alloy rims which I will have on all future cars. I did get an aftermarket stereo installed so I could plug in my MP3 player, now my iPhone. My wife's 2010 Subaru has an Aux jack, so that's no longer the issue that it once was. And yes, I remember the mechanical clocks. IIRC, the first family car that I remember was a '69 Impala that had one, it was replaced with a '73 Impala which became my first ( ... )
