Dr. Boycott doesn't own the facility, "The Director" does. Also the experiments conducted in the book were all directly based on actual experiments done on animals in real life. There's nothing that suggests Adams was in any way forced against his will to write a good ending epilogue, he'd clearly set it up that way. Also he didn't have them rescued by a mythological person, but an actual literally real person. Not a great way to go about it, but certainly not as ridiculous as santa claus
