BTW, I got the 12 inch Capt'n Jack talking doll. ;-D I am now tempted to get a tiny tiara for it.

And there is a bit on SciFi.com is that they have confirm Keith Richards for the part of Jack's father in Pirates 3. Looks like it will actually happen!!!!

Two more days! My friends have been warned if they get up on Friday and I'm not here, I'm in line somewhere for Pirates.

Dobry den and welcome home. I lived in Prague for a few years in the early 90s, teaching English in a public school up by Hradcanksa (sp?), and my eyes got big and puzzled when I heard my fellow teachers greeting each other with 'ahoy.' So one of the first things that was explained to me was that sometime in the 19th century, English sailors, a lot of them, were in Prague and the yelling 'ahoy' at each other, as sailors will. The Czechs were so taken with the word, they adopted it. At least that's the story I got on it.

I can definitely tell by my Flist that it's Pirates week and that sounds good to me. And so very awesome about Johnny Depp admitting the gayness. I love gay pirates!

As for "ahoy," I don't have any real idea whether there's a connection... it could be from Czech, but it's also possible that that's just a sound that comes naturally to many humans for expressing that idea. From watching anime I gather that the Japanese sound for "hey!" sounds a lot like "oy!" although that's certainly not as close as the Czech and English words.
