I hadn't seen the mini-series since it aired on BBC America years ago, so I'd forgotten a bunch of stuff, but really loved the movie version, too. I adore Russell Crowe and Helen Mirren, am quickly becoming a Rachel McAdams fan, and was tickled to see Michael Weston. But, as you said, I felt Affleck was quite a letdown after having seen Morrissey in that role, but then I don't much care for Affleck, so I thought maybe it was just me.
Btw, did you see the recent Sense and Sensibility with Morrissey as Colonel Brandon? Mmmmm...
(btw, I have never liked Ben Affleck either. I keep trying to like him. I figure, since Matt Damon has won me over, Ben Affleck should as well. But I just can't. The only film I think he's any good in is Good Will Hunting)
I am re-watching "State of Play" now and am half-way through, and trying to imagine how the hell they'd adapt it into a screenplay. Eventually, I will prolly go see the movie. But omg DELLA ROCKS SO HARD. I love how she so totally doesn't let Cal bullshit her, and she's so damned good at her job, and I love that there is so totally canon femmeslash with her and Helen.
Also? That first scene where Polly Walker basically seduces Cal cos she finally figures out he's in love with her and she needs someone to be in love with her (plus added bonus of fucking her husband's boyfriend), and is just running her hand down his neck and he closes his eyes? SO DAMNED HOT.
Yeah, well, the mini-series is excellent, and that's just that. The movie doesn't suck, though. lol.
Della is nifty in the movie, as well, but there is less contention between she and Cal -- he pushes her a little bit, and defends her when she's nearly taken off the story, and gives her equal credit, etc. It's a much more harmonious relationship, less challenging but still interesting. I did miss the always stunning Kelly MacDonald, although Rachel was great and she had good chemistry with Russell.
Yeah, the Anne Collins character is muted in the film. I loved her in the series and loved her in the film only because I knew all of that was there but just couldnt' be shown.

YES I DID. I loved it. He was wonderful. The only thing was that he was so wonderful it made no sense for Marianne to be in love with Willoughby. lol.
