N-no, it's not fair... You can't be here, too. you can't. How did you--

[A chair clatters to the floor as Neil backs up into it; he grunts a little as he trips over it, keeps going. Obviously whoever he's talking to, he doesn't want to be anywhere near them. He pauses for a moment; but no other voice is audible.]I' ( Read more... )

It's not fair, he shouldn't get to--

Youko, he wants me to drop the play. Again. Still. I dunno.

What do you want to do? You're the director, not your dad.

Don't listen to him, Neil.

I'm not dropping out. I won't. We've done too much, I can't leave you all now.

He's not supposed to be here, I don't want him here, and he won't leave me alone...

I know you won't. You're stronger than that, Neil, and...and you're doing what you love, and he has no right to tell you not to. You think for yourself, just like your teacher taught you, remember? He believed in you, and I do, too.

Do you want me to come keep you company, so you don't have to listen to him alone?

My father's here. I dunno how he got into our apartment.

If it's of a personal nature, I won't pry, but I would hope his presence doesn't become too odious.

He won't leave.

He-- He can't make me do anything here, can he? They won't let him, will they?

He's not really here. It's just my imagination... right?

Likely curse or not, Neil hadn't moved-- still clinging to one wall, eyes focused on a patch of nothingness. They darted over to Todd when the other boy spoke, and he tried to muster a small smile, sliding cautiously towards his friend, not quite willing to take a step in his invisible father's direction. His gaze flicked back periodically to that fixed point. Neil moved warily, clearly nervous, even if he ought to know better.

"You don't see him, do you." He murmured, once he was within a few feet of where Todd stood.

"Yeah, that's what people said..." He sighs quietly, steps a little closer to Todd. A little farther from his father. "It still--"

He hesitates, not really sure how to express himself. "I wish he'd go away," he murmurs sulkily, glaring at nothing. "Even if he's not real."

Abruptly he turns away-- as though a lapse in attention will banish the hallucination-- and looks at Todd, this time catching the other boy's expression.

"Yours too?"
