1. According to IMDB, today Tom Felton turns 17. Millions of jailbait-lusters people everywhere rejoice.

2. There are two reasons to see Closer: Jude Law and Clive Owen. There are also two reasons not to see Closer: Julia Roberts and Natalie Portman. Perhaps I will just stick my fingers in my ears a lot ( Read more... )

This is wonderful!

Oddly enough, I enjoyed the section about his grandparents the best I think. You really nailed what I feel to be a very accurate description of Fraser growing up.

Terrific stuff!

Oh, very nice! I think I liked this line the best.

Of course after his father died he paid so much attention to Fraser that Fraser got nostalgic for his childhood.

Lovely. I loved the Innusiq section - very tender description of the beginning of their friendship, and sad when it was ending. Just lovely :)

I count the fact that Patrick Marber adapted his own play for the screen as the third reason to go see Closer, but I also have a slightly freaky obsessive crush on Patrick Marber, so maybe that's just me.

Okay, educate me, who is Patrick Marber? Why should I have heard of him already?

Unless you read and/or see a lot of plays, you probably wouldn't have heard of him - he's a modern British playwright, and the original stage production of Closer was his big break in the British theater scene. Clive Owen actually originated the role he's playing in the movie in the world premiere production of the play at the Royal National Theater. It was a smash-hit on Broadway, too, in '98 or '99.

Marber's written a couple of other plays, but none of them are as brutal or as brilliant or as famous as Closer. It's an absolute gut-punch of a play, but it's gorgeous, and if he adapted his own script for the screen, I can assure you that at least the script will be wonderful. I cannot say the same for Julia Roberts, more's the pity.
