Just to clarify: I doubt that it was ACTUALLY "pumpkin pie in a tin."
I suspect that it was "pumpkin pie filling" -- pureed cooked pumpkin, with some sugar added. You're supposed to use it to MAKE pie -- it, itself, is NOT pie.
We have pastry stuff in cans here, like croissants. When I worked in a shop someone asked me if we sell "those croissants in a tin, my wife really wants one"... I thought he was a mental.
