I made a little storage space in the shower today for my row of sugar scrubs. Several years ago, I didn't understand the appeal of these things, but I'd bought only commercial types that were so full of oil that they nearly made me slip in the shower. Now, I know better ( Read more... )

I'm glad it's not just me!

Now we just need to convince someone to make them ... ;)

(And certain someones, preferably. Low-drama someones. Heh.)

That's a really good idea. I would buy that.

If I could afford it, I would use sugar scrubs every single day. I've only been using scrubs for a couple of years because before that I wasn't really aware of them. Now I don't want to be without them.

If I knew how, I would try to make it. But I don't. Boo!

I used to think I hated bar soap and was all about shower gel and scrubby things, but Villainess and Propaganda convinced me otherwise. Still, there's something so fun (and soft-making) about scrubs ... mmm ... warm shower ...

(Just woke up. Thoughts not quite in order.)

Help me out: What is the purpose of a sugar scrub? Is it good for super dry skin?

Some of them are! Some are extra-scrubby and exfoliating, some are more moisturizing - Villainess' Smooches, which I love, include some that are "conditioning" scrubs, so they're gentle and softening. Or so I read; I haven't used them. But even the scrubby ones give me way softer skin than soaps. Just don't buy Bath & Body Works ones - ugh, the oil. It'll make you fall down in the shower. :)

edited because i can't type before coffee

Do you use them in addition to or in lieu of soap?

I use them in lieu of but I think some people use them with. That just veers a little too close to "lather, rinse, repeat" for me. :)

Heh, my initial Smooch! prototypes were single use truffle-sizes. The plan was to let them firm up in lip-shaped molds - that's how they got the name.

Mass production was tricky though - hard to time it just right to suspend the sugar while the smooch became firm. I still ponder how to pull that one off sometimes.

Oh, funny! I didn't know that. And being a know-nothing wisher-for-weird-things, of course I didn't consider how it would be difficult... interesting. Partly I think the notion just appealed to me because I am apparently one of those insane people who likes to use something different, oh, every day - I cut all my soap into little squares and then get neurotic about my scrubs growing weird things. So if they were little ones, they'd have less chances to grow. (I say this while mentally eyeing a Scintillating that I have no idea when I opened. But damn, does it smell good...)
