So which is most likely to be making me feel more loopy and stoned, the painkillers or the muscle relaxer? Because this level of no-attention-span wooziness has GOT to go

I don't think there's any solid answer for that. If you've built up even a little tolerance for either, the other one's the one that will make you loopy.
Speaking only for myself, painkillers (vicodin, in particular) just make me feel really, really good, not especially stoned other than perhaps kind of giggly and a little slower. Muscle relaxants (Flexaril) make me me feel tired -- not stoned or loopy, but I-want-a-nap tired.
I don't think I have much of a tolerance for either, though last time I had prescription painkillers, when I had a root canal, I had to go back to the dentist and ask for stronger ones, 'cause the first ones didn't do the trick. So probably it is the Flexaril, which my mom warned me would make me sleep all day. Which is a most annoying thing to happen during Commie Pinko Short Story week! Ugh.
I pondered this question last week, thanks to my TMJ thing. I think it's the muscle relaxers. When I've taken just painkillers (like for breaking 3 ribs) it didn't seem the same.
I'm thinking it's the relaxers too ... I may try to just take them at night, before bed, in hopes of sleeping better (sleeping in one sitting-up position is so not doing wonders for the rest of my body!). 'Cause sleeping all weekend is only fun when you're doing it on purpose.
I broke 3 ribs at a Peter Murphy concert. I was up at the front, by Peter, and some tweaker decided he wanted my exact spot, and shoved me so hard I hit the floor. What a jerk.
I only take the relaxers right before bed or on the weekend. That said, I can not take vicodin and go to work -- I lose the ability to concentrate. Tylenol with codeine isn't quite as bad.
