the emotion of it all. I do not want to ever be in Danny's position of having an ICE number and not knowing who it was for...then finding out and the whole world basically imploding. I could honestly feel Steve's hurt and anger at finding out that Danny had that number for so long (even though he didn't know what it was to). And Chin dealing with Malia's death. His reaction to having Delano at gun point was so very real.
oh wonderful author, you did a fantastic job with this!
I'm already preemptively sniffling about Malia, and this ... poor Chin. I absolutely thank you for making sure to encompass all of the chaos - Chin and Kono, amid all of the burgeoning Steve/Danny relationship and miscommunications, etc. What went down in the finale, it's almost too much to take and I suspect TPTB won't quite give the necessary depth to some of it.
Oh, Steve. He is a bit of a broken toy, always has been - a life shaped by a giant lie. It's no wonder he flipped out on Danny (what sad timing that was, btw, minutes before Danny was going to tell him), and bless Danny for refusing to give ground on his position, which had as much merit.
This was great. Thank you so much for writing it for me! :)
Yaaay!! I'm so happy you liked it!! :):) I'd been hesitant to even attempt something built around the finale, there was just so much, and then I got your prompt, and just as I was really contemplating how to attack it, the deleted scenes leaked, and...yeah.
"Broken toy"--I love that! I think that's such a perfect description of Steve. I really hope they have him taking all season to come to terms with the magnitude of what his mother did, just letting it leak out in bits and pieces.
I'm so glad that both sides were believable--there's really no one who's right in the mess between Steve and Danny, just two people in bad positions trying to deal the best they can, which made it fun to write.
Thank you so much for the prompt!! I was honored to write it for you! :):)
Oh, wow, thank you so, so much!! :):) I'm thrilled you enjoyed it, and I am blushing at such high praise! Thank you kindly for taking the time to let me know--very much appreciated! :):)
I can understand Steve's anger but it was completely misplaced when he directed it at Danny--it should have been directed at Joe White, and then his own parents. But they aren't around and Danny is so Danny got the brunt of it.
So good for Danny for taking it in stride and I'm proud of Steve for finally realizing that if you love someone, you'll do everything in your power to protect them from pain and harm.
Thank you kindly!! :):) I think one of the things I loved most about writing this was working through exactly what you were talking about--the misdirected anger on Steve's side, and Danny's hiding the phone number on his side. They're human, not perfect, and I loved exploring that humanity. So being able to understand it even though they were in the wrong is the response I most hoped for, so thank you!! :):)
Thanks for taking the time to comment, too--I appreciate it so much!! :):)
