Aw sweetie. I thought she was so cool. I so distinctly remember Benigno being assasinated on the tarmac... I remember the days leading up to it, and them basically knowing he was going to die as soon as he touched down, and what an amazing and strong woman she was to deal with that, and then to move forward and do all she did. I remember the yellow ribbons, too. :) Not perfect, but who is? RIP Corey.
I was too young to remember Ninoy Aquino's assassination or completely understand what happened after that, but I do remember being a kid, hearing about Cory and learning all the stuff I did because of her. I suppose you could say that she was part of my childhood - I think a lot of Filipinos my age are particularly affected by her death because of that.
I remember when Cory Aquino was in our news here - there was so much rejoicing among Filipino-Americans and Filipinos when she became president. For me it was symbolic of one person being able to bring down tyranny - she was "Yes We Can!" in the 1980's.
You're right! :) It looks like that's what Filipinos are choosing to remember about her, and I'm glad about that because people were tough on her back when she was President even though she did her best.
