adventures in lucid dreaming, redux (or, i've been trying to find time to write this post all day):

Feb 22, 2011 20:07

Those of you who've been around for awhile may remember the last time I made a post about a lucid dream; for those of you who are just joining us (and hello, by the way, lovely to meet you all :D), I...er. Well, sometimes I have dreams and realize that I'm dreaming while I'm dreaming, which is great, it's awesome, except for how I can't seem to put ( Read more... )

God, do I miss your brand of craziness.

But I must say, your dream reads like a chapter out of a Jasper Fforde novel...I am waiting for Tuesday Next's dodo to come up to you and go "plonk plonk."

fhjdsfhsjd I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THIS DREAM WAS ABOUT, it was so bizarre I cannot even. But, to be fair, still probably less weird than the time I (non-lucidly) dreamed I was in my house, went downstairs for a snack, and found Neal Caffrey attempting to steal a box of Ritz crackers. Which I don't like. Or eat. Or keep in the house.

But it was Neal Caffrey in your kitchen...and the Ritz crackers could have secretly meant the Ritz Carlton, and you were displaced from the luxury hotel into your mundane household.

Just saying.

That's how I woke up today, you guys. Punched in the face by Steve McGarrett.

I feel like this has potentially spoiled you for any other awesome ways to wake up

I'm laughing so hard I'm red in the face.

My Latin is kind of limited to everything ever mentioned in Astérix comics + an assortment of phrases meant to convey pretentiousness as taught by my mother the MD to me, because then "[I] can trump the other MDs' kids at conferences" + some random shit where I had to translate from Greek and only had a Latin translation available as help.

That was pretty much my reaction, after I got up and flicked the light on and off a couple times to make sure I was really awake.

My Latin was once passably decent, but I'm out of practice like WHOA. It is still better than Burro's grip on Greek, which is basically "These are the letters of my fraternity, that's all I need to know, right?"

To be fair, he speaks fluent Spanish and passable Chinese, so he totally has me beat in everything but the classics.

I can understand Latin okay. Comes from having a fleeting acquaintance with it, but speaking Portuguese fluently and French, Spanish, Catalan and Italian passably well.

My Greek is atrophying so fast it's not even funny anymore. I feel the vague need to read some plays to freshen it up, but I don't actually want to. A part of me is going "Ha ha, IN YOUR FACE, sadistic Greek teacher of my misspent youth!"

What I really want to do is improve my Japanese. And possibly my Danish. Learn some new languages! I'm dying to learn Farsi, and Arabic, and Korean!

NOT ENOUGH BRAINSPACE/HOURS IN THE DAY.

It's like...I don't know, I have a mental block on languages, it's terrible, I try and try but never retain anything :/ ONE OF THESE DAYS I WILL FIGURE OUT HOW TO LEARN THEM, IT'LL BE GREAT

Controlling lucid dreams maybe feels a bit like walking in water, doesn't it, like-- you can do it, but it's not very quick or controlled. It's like your unconscious is pool water all around you, and it's all, GOTTA GET THROUGH ME FIRST YOU MORON >:|

Yes, that is exactly what it is like. WHICH IS SO FRUSTRATING, BECAUSE I COULD DO SO MANY AWESOME THINGS IF ONLY I COULD FIGURE OUT SOME MODICUM OF CONTROL

To be fair, it jolted me out of the dream so quickly it didn't hurt, so it was mostly just hysterical :D
