I love "A Christmas Story" dearly, and have since it was in theaters and practically no one else had ever heard of it. That said, I find that very few movies, even "classics", hold up to viewing yearly, now that my tastes have matured.

I was certainly among the myriads who ignored it in theaters, but among the first who saw it on television long before it attained "classic" status. Watching yearly, god forbid; but it turns out it wears better after twenty years than I had expected.

(Cf. my rant on It's a Wonderful Life.)

I don't remember the specifics of your IaWL rant. I think I've seen the whole thing once or twice, and liked it well enough. But certainly not enough for every year.

Now, I *do* think that A Christmas Carol is worth a yearly visit, though if one wants variety, there are plenty of adaptations to choose among.
