a re-write of this fic. (i wrote it a while ago and on a different acc)
sunggyu likes smoking, but he likes woohyun more.

The weight of the cigarette between Sunggyu’s fingers is calming as he raises it lazily to his lips. The smoke trickles down his throat as he breathes deeply, and oozes into his lungs. It fans out slowly in front of his face; the heather-gray vapour twisting and writhing upwards, distorting the landscape before him.

Woohyun is beside him on the lush grass, lazing back and looking at the blue sky. He had began humming something some time ago but Sunggyu still can’t tell what it is. Despite this, it’s calming. Even more calming than his cigarette.

Sunggyu removes the cigarette from his lips and inhales one last time, a contented sigh leaving his lips as he looked out at the scenery, fields of green grass and jewelled flowers and other hazy hues of green and yellow, not a single car or grey city building in sight.

He flicks the cigarette away.

They’re sat on the top of a hill, away from prying eyes and the sound of the busy city. There’s no manager nagging at them to get ready, there’s no tightly packed schedule, and there are no other members. It’s just the two of them, no one else.

Woohyun bites his lip, props himself up on his elbows and stops humming. His face breaks into an easy smile, and looks at Sunggyu through the corner of his eye.

"It's nice here," Sunggyu said, a smile to envy Woohyun’s playing upon his lips.

Woohyun nods his head in agreement even though he knows Sunggyu is looking at the sky overhead, and not at him.

"There was a reason I brought you here, Sunggyu." he replies, voice even. He averts his eyes away from Sunggyu and tries to focus on some place on the horizon.

"Why?" Sunggyu asks, head tipping. His gaze doesn’t waver from the fluffy white clouds, although his brow frowns ever so slightly.

"Why... What?" Woohyun’s smile falters.

"Why did you bring me here?" And now Sunggyu looks at Woohyun, all soft brown eyes with a slight glint in them, comforting Woohyun in far more ways than anything else ever could.

"Because," he began, swallowing the something in his throat which wouldn't go away, "I -uh- have to tell you something."

Sunggyu hmm'd in acknowledgement, making a hand motion in the air to tell Woohyun to carry on before turning to the packet of cigarettes beside him and lighting one up swiftly in one easy step.
"Sunggyu... You know that feeling?” Woohyun swallows audibly “That feeling when you see someone and everything seems to go in slow motion and your head becomes light,” Sunggyu turns to Woohyun, smoke trickling out from between astounded lips “and your heart flutters and your stomach does somersaults?" Woohyun draws in a shaky breath, eyes sliding shut, "And then you feel your face heating up and you become nervous and... You make a fool out of yourself to get their attention-” Woohyun reopens them and locks his eyes with Sunggyu, “and even though you look like an idiot, everything is still okay because at least they're focusing on you?"

Sunggyu opens his mouth to say something, but then Woohyun ploughs on, vowels and consonants stumbling over each other, "But then you get this nagging feeling at the back of your head... This voice eating away at your brain telling you over and over again that it'll never work, they won't love you back, they can't love you back because that's not how it's supposed to be. That you’re too broken to be loved, you can’t even love yourself." Woohyun shakes his head and glances to Sunggyu. He bites his lip.

Sunggyu shuts his stunned mouth and shuffles closer to Woohyun, not caring if grass stains smear across the back of his jeans - he’ll be told off about that later - and he puts an arm around his shoulders; pulling him in tight.
"I do know the feeling," Sunggyu’s head finds a place on Woohyun’s shoulder and hovers there as he whispers into Woohyun's ear.

Woohyun forces out a small laugh, resting his chin on his knees and keeps his eyes resolutely shut, "It sucks, doesn't it?"

There's a pause before Sunggyu replies. He lifts his head away from Woohyun’s bony shoulder and Woohyun’s eyes flutter open. Sunggyu’s arm snakes away to break his tight embrace. "Not really. It's nice to know the feeling of being in love - even if it doesn't work out.” Sunggyu frowns, “You learn from it." Sunggyu’s hand finds it’s way back up onto Woohyun’s shoulder. He smiles.

Sunggyu, the one with all the wise advice. "I suppose," Woohyun sighs, "But it kinda sucks that I won't be able to be with the person."

"Who says that you won't?" Sunggyu questions, tracing vague shapes with his fingertips on Woohyun's bicep.

"You." Woohyun’s voice is almost inaudible against the wind.

It was one of those moments where someone said something, the other person heard it, but carried on like nothing had happened. It made the person who spoke in the first place think twice if they really did say something - or whether they just dreamt they did.

Woohyun hears the click of a lighter as Sunggyu re-lights his forgotten cigarette.

"We should probably get back to the dorm now, it's getting late." Sunggyu announced amongst a cloud of smoke, squeezing Woohyun's shoulder lightly before standing up, throwing his cigarette butt on to the grass and crushing it with a sneaker-clad foot.
He moved to stand in front of Woohyun and offers his hand. Woohyun looks at the outstretched hand and grabs it, pulling himself up.

They make their way down the grassy mount, eyes set on the ground as they avoided anything which would make them lose their balance on the steep slope.

Woohyun steals a swift glance at Sunggyu, and Sunggyu steals a glance at Woohyun, and then suddenly, Woohyun is staggering; his feet tripping over a shallow dip in the ground. And then he felt it. A warm grip on his forearm, another on his bicep, steadying him. He looks over his shoulder and laughs when he sees the startled expression on Sunggyu's face.

Sunggyu rolls his eyes and shakes his head, but laughs along; the sound of two men’s voices carrying on down to the bottom of the hill and to the small gravel track, leading back into civilisation.

Woohyun's head feels fuzzy and his heart is beating an erratic rhythm against his ribs. A large grin spreads across his face and a warm flush starts settling itself upon his freckled cheeks.

"You will, by the way." Sunggyu mumbles suddenly. Woohyun raises an eyebrow in confusion, a small gesture to tell Sunggyu to continue.

"You will be with him, because he likes you back."

When Woohyun kisses Sunggyu, it tastes of everything he wanted it to taste of, happiness and friendship and sweetness and - above all - the hazy taste of smoke.
