Will Shetterly has left LJ again. It's crazy, how folks get so worked up over some things. I enjoyed reading his posts and if I want to continue reading them then I need to go to blogger to do so.

Hey, another one of my friends had the same question about saving their LJ. Here is a copy of what I send them.
I am also interested in keeping my journal for "posterity". I know that 10 years down the line (I'll be 67! Yikes) I will enjoy reading it.
I am liking www.ljbook.com. It's free. It saves your LJ to a PDF which you have to download within an hour. It only takes a couple of minutes to create the PDF. It can include photos and comments etc. You choose.
The sample copy print looks small, but when you view the file as downloaded it is quite wonderful!

I believe there is some sorta LJ backup that my friends have used but all it does is print your journal. As for putting it to CD well if I hear of something I will let you know.

http://fawx.com/software/ljarchive/ is what I use to back up LJ.

I dunno, I guess it depends on the purpose of the journal. Mine in general is not a diary, per se, and so 99.99% of what is posted is for general consumption: what point in posting it privately? I do make the occasional note to myself on story ideas private, thought that's pretty much it.
