Oh baby.

Redesigned some code last week... finally got the new implementation requested from the lower layers today so I came in to put our implementation in place...

Old workfow: user selects 10000 items (yes, stupidly large and unlikely, however...) and clicks ok button... waits over one hour for the results to come back

wow. your coding geekery never ceases to amaze. I'm pretty impressed though, from over an hour to just over 1 second... I shudder to think on what order of magnitude you increased the workflow speed. well done.

Which is good, because the product in question is supposed to be especially good for usability. Making users happy is almost the entire point of re-writing out old app.
