I finally posted the epic I’ve been holding on to for around 3 months. It’s weird not having it all to myself, and the hand full of people I forced to look at them.

Merlin's Magical Misadventure in two parts @ shopperySiiiiiiigh. I’ve been forced to give up dairy. Which is so depressing. Everything I eat had cheese on it, I miss it so much it HURTS INSIDE ( Read more... )

coconut milk is pretty good but you have to experiment with the flavors a bit. I'm a BIG fan of strawberry coconut milk kefir with granola/cereal/in smoothies.
almond milk is also pretty good but I've never liked any flavor except the plain one (never trust "vanilla" anything).

See, I hate the idea of any sort of milk in my cereal. I use it for cooking and pudding. I wish they came in smaller containers. They are all huge around here. I have to hunt for the half gallons and they come in limited flavors and brands.

that's sad :( my grocery store is kind of hippy dippy so they always have a lot of ~alternative options.
if you're able to hunt it down I've been able to find almond milk in jukeboxes!

I use coconut milk in my fruit smoothies every day and I love it. I haven't actually tried drinking it all by itself but I would guess it would be good that way too.

I really liked your manips! You did a great job on them.

Can you taste a hint of coconut in your smoothie? I know I can taste it a bit in some of the ice cream flavors I've had and I do like it. I'm just not sure how it'd taste in cake.

I had to give it up because of a sudden onset of IBS. Now that I'm off dairy this is the healthiest I've felt in a REALLY long time.

I've had the lactose-free cheese and it's pretty awful. I blame it on the fact I used to eat some pretty fancy cheeses and am a bit of a cheese snob.

I use the lactaid Dietary Supplements all the time! They help when I'm out and can't avoid some things.

It wouldn't hurt to have some extra recipes. I'm up for trying anything.

TRUE.

It's so bad. It's rubbery and flavorless. I did find one cheese slice I did like. So I think it's just a matter of finding someone who is GOOD at it.

Hey, now I have another keyword to search I didn't know about. Plus I love new food. THANK YOU.

I feel your suffering. I gave up cheese for lent this year (after I actually looked at the nutritional information and found out that cheese and lard have little difference in terms of fat, except one is tastier than the other). It was awful. Cheese is like my comfort food.

I think most of my meals are actually dairy free. This is probably because I eat a LOT of curry. Thai curry's really easy to make - just chicken, coconut milk and a thai curry paste of your choosing (I've been eating yellow all exam period, I swear).

But my favourite thing to cook is South African curry. I've put up the recipe on my lj, in case anyone's interested, but if you'd like to check it out, I'd heartily recommend it, it's yummy :)

Wow, that's so gross. HAHAHA. BLARG.

Holy crap that sounds freaking yummy. Can you tell me if there's garlic in your Indian curry paste? Garlic and I aren't good friends. Garlic is normally where I'm really running into problems. HEY so that means you like Coconut Milk? Does it sorta taste like coconut. I know the ice cream does.

I MISS YOUR FRANTIC EMAILS ABOUT BB. *NOSTALGIC SIGH*

Oh no! I checked in my fridge and all my pastes do have garlic in them :( But Jamie Oliver tells me that if you're up for a food adventure, you can make your own, and this person does it for Thai as well, and some people say they leave out the garlic and it doesn't make too much difference.

Garlic is a terrible thing to have an intolerance for! Good lord, I think cooking could only get more complicated if you couldn't eat onions :S

I only ever use coconut milk for curries and it does taste a bit like coconut, but I'm not sure if that's because I'm using the sweeter, more concentrated curry stuff. I'm led to believe the milk that people actually pour on their coco pops is different.

I KNOW, I KNOW. Now Moonie gets to bear the full brunt of it, poor thing. I had a wonderful afternoon researching things for my fic today, which was extremely enlightening! I had no idea I could travel to so many places without a visa!

I'm always up for an adventure.

It's so awful. Only good thing is I've started to really hate the taste of garlic so not only can I ID it, I don't really miss it all that much.

The taste of coconut is amazing, just not in some things. That's why I wondered. If it'd be okay for cooking.

Soooo jealous. Clearly you just don't love me anymore.
