Birding

Another sporadic update to what has essentially become my birding blog:

Once I get back to 100% after the surgery I'm going to take a trip to one of the local aviaries or nesting-grounds. I'm running out of birds to find in the greater Baton Rouge area.

We have house finches building a nest in the corner of our front porch. Or, at least, we did the other day.

I used to see them all the time when I was up in Maryland. They're not as common down here, but I did see a mated pair this weekend.

You're lucky you have house finches. I have a mockingbird nesting in the tree right outside my bedroom window and he starts signing promptly at 3am every morning. Famous books aside, I would be more than happy to kill *that* mockingbird.

Heh. That's the reason I don't sleep much past 4:00 in the summer. Not mockingbirds, specifically, but songbirds in general. That's about when they start greeting the dawn around here. Of cours, Dawn's not even out of bed yet, either, and if they're her alarm clock, I wish she'd smack snooze a few more times.
