So yesterday after work I was lying on my bed reading when a cat jumped up, plopped its front half on my stomach, and butted its head against my hand begging to be petted. So of course I complied, not really knowing or caring which cat it was. Until I realised that the cat I was petting was thin almost to the point of unhealthy. So I looked, and

I think you're right to be worried. Perhaps her hiding is a symptom of something being wrong rather than just her personality? Cats do tend to hide when they don't feel well or are in pain. I have a hard time imagining a cat starving herself just because she doesn't want to come out.

I've already taken her to the vet. They were unable to find anything physically wrong with her.
