Some say the world will end in fire
Some say in ice
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favour fire
But if I had to perish twice
I think I know enough of hate
To know that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

On the fly in 'Friends of Friends'...

You know, the first time I encountered that piece of Robert Frost was in an Avengers comic book, circa 1970, where it was used as the title sequence. An excellent story, too, by Roy Thomas, I think...

I remember reciting this for a junior-high-school English class.

I'm intrigued by your text colors. I'd have expected twice and suffice but not hate.

The idea was that the concept of desire is equated with fire while the concept of hate is equated with ice. Hence 'fire' and 'desire' are in red and 'hate' and 'ice' are in blue. Had nothing to do with the rhyme scheme, although I see where it might have looked that way.

Okay, I see. I heard that revenge was best served cold, as well.

I first encountered this quote in This is the Way the World Ends by James Morrow. Definitely worth a read...

Not with a bang, but a whimper?

That would depend on which was more appropriate to the extinction of the future.
