So my right wisdom tooth hole is definitely a dry socket. Extreme pain that is only barely masked by the good pills. And also apparently it only takes a few hours of pain for me to turn into a scowling monster ready to bit folks' heads off

I have a tote bag full of "expired" painkillers from my back injury. When I am in pain I take them.
The pharmacist said that if they were kept in the dark in a temp controlled area (like my closet) they should be fine. He said worst case is that they lose a bit of oomph, but that they won't hurt me.
Take what you need to.
Can you go to the drug store?
red cross tootache kit or the dentak emergency tooth kit
contain the clove oil and gauze and you can make a temp pack until you can get into to see the dentist.

Yeah, that's the plan. I have a couple of vicodin left over from my surgery two years ago and I'll take one tonight before bed. I might stop by the drug store in the morning and look for the emergency kit you talked about. I'm wary of messing with it on my own, but if I'm in enough pain I might try.
