These kind of reminded me of Lemony Snicket lite: After the Huit octuplets' parents disappear on New Year's Eve, the children start finding mysterious notes behind a loose stone in the drawing room. According to the notes, each sister has a power and a gift, and they must find out what they are if they are to discover what happened to their parents. Meanwhile, of course, they have to pretend all is well, and that they still *have* parents, so that they won't be split up and taken away from their home. They're actually pretty fun YA books, although the narrative voice drives me a bit up the wall. The story is told in first person, and the unnamed narrator refers to the sisters as 'we' and yet has, at some point, referred to all eight of the sisters in the third person, begging the question of exactly who the narrator is, if she's one of the sisters and yet not any of the sisters.
