So, I'm thinking. I've been doing genealogy research for a few friends of mine and others have indicated interest. I don't mind doing it, but it does take time. And I've been wracking my brain trying to come up with ways to make a little extra money, as things are quite tight at the moment. So, I think I'm going to start charging. Cool. I might be interested in this for myself. I am somewhat curious about my heritage, but also have a total abhorrence of contacting my birth family, and yes, I expect that might make thing more tricky- though you, at least, are no me and so have a layer of anonymity I cannot.

I know one of my relatives supposedly traced some ancestor or other back to the Revolution, but I dunno that i trust that info- and she wouldn't divulge details without payment, so I don't know any.

Do you know the names and approximate dates of your parents and grandparents from your birth family? That's really all I need to get started. My stepfather isn't in touch with his parents or any of his other relatives, but he had names, and I was able to do his quite far back :)

No contact with birth family isn't really a problem if you know their names, at least as far back as your grandparents. I can usually take it from there on my own. Now, Smith, on the other hand, could be a problem :)
