So I'm reading this memoir written by one of the French Quarter holdouts during Katrina, and he's talking about how he and some of his friends dubbed themselves the Krewe of Nagin after hearing the mayor's tirade on the radio. That's funny! I do know what 'krewe' means, but not from ever living in Louisiana. I'm a long time reader of Frances Parkinson Keyes' books, and my favorites are all set in LA. My favorite, Crescent Carnival, is all about Mardi Gras time in New Orleans.

Seems i've always known, it's just one of those inescapable facts, if you
know about mardi gras you know about krewes :)

Some krewes are ball only, that's not widely known.

I actually did know that, but krewes are still more associated with the parades.

Nah, I'm not really complaining. It's just odd. I came here figuring that I'd put in my couple of years and head for greener pastures, but I really do like it here. Didn't really expect that. Still, there are worse places to go Native :)
