Gustav plans

For those wondering. I am in Birmingham, AL, right now, but I am cutting my trip short (I was supposed to fly home tomorrow, but that flight got cancelled) and will be driving back to Baton Rouge this afternoon. I will be hunkering down with the kitties and will let you know how it goes as soon as I have email and/or phone contact when it's all ( Read more... )

If you've got carriers and the gas, you're welcome to come hunker down up here in Natchitoches.

Thanks, I appreciate the offer, but I've only got enough carriers for four of my six kitties, and trying to get them all in carriers would be a day's work as it is. Plus, BR really isn't likely to get hit too hard, so barring a tornado touching down on my head, we should be fine here.

Offer stands throughout the season, hopefully you won't need it.

Yeah, I don't know anyone in NO personally, but I know *of* a few people who are planning on staying put and riding it out, including Poppy Z. Brite. I think they're insane, personally. If I was in NO, I would have been long gone by now. Baton Rouge is far enough away to be safe -- this is actually where they're housing all the emergency personnel so they'll be ready to deploy as soon as Gustav passes. So short of a tornado landing on my head, I should be fine. It'll be a rough road though. I'm really more worried about after. I might start folding cranes just to give me something to do when the power goes out.
