Book #60 -- Philip Pullman, The Amber Spyglass, 518 pages.

Finally finished the third book in His Dark Materials. I thought it did an excellent job of pulling together all the threads of the other two books, something I was skeptical about as the end of the second book struck me as somewhat scattered.

The idea of having the world of the Dead as just another parallel universe was something I never would have considered, and I really liked what he did with it. And the world of the mulefa was one of the more creative alternate universes I've seen in awhile.

In fact, I only have one real criticism: How could he separate Lyra and Will, after all that?! Dammit, I *like* my happy endings. It's so totally unfair. I would have much preferred an ending perhaps where they had to go off together on a quest to close all the windows in the worlds personally. Then they'd get to be together and travel and see new things, and it wouldn't have felt so much like they were robbed of their due reward for having gone through so much hell. *sigh* I want my happy ending.
