We're here! We're annoyed with AT&T for telling us the iPhone would work over here but not actually setting it up so that it would, but at least we're here, in a little, surprisingly quiet flat off King's Road

Double, triple, and quadruple check that AT&T has set it up *correctly*... otherwise you may have a nasty surprise on your next bill.

The iPhone will *work* nearly globally, but you'll get reamed on the billing unless you signed up explicitly for their Global Data Plan before you left.
