I have sometimes suspected that boundaries between slightly alternate universes breaking down is the explanation for why I am forever not finding my nail-scissors, my hairbrush or my comfort pen where I remember leaving them.

That would explain it. It also probably accounts for the socks going missing in the dryer phenomenon. ;)
