* Libya: The rebels keep gaining ground and a majority of the country is now in rebel hands. The Government really only holds Tripoli and a few other Western population centers. Gadhafi is not allowing us to evacuate stranded Americans. No clue about other stranded non-Libyans ( Read more... )

You know, I'm not so sure that big breakfast thing is particularly good for a lot of people. People in high school thought I was weird because I didn't eat cereal or pancakes or whatever for breakfast -- I always ate pinto beans and cheese -- but I never felt sleepy after breakfast or crashed after a sugar high by 9 am like everyone else ( ... )

Well, I never liked the kid's cereal. I favoured things like granola, well softened. The sugar crash wasn't an issue.

That heavy meat, greasy diet is one of the many results of the Great Pestilence in England. It is essentially a legacy of the famines of the early fourteenth century followed by the sudden death of a third of the population letting people eat as much prestige foods as they wanted as the food supply did not shrink as fast as the human population.

Fun fact: this is also why the middle class started wearing underwear.

Oddly enough, my Not an Ulcer, but would like to grow up to be one, has lead to me losing about 45lbs.

re Spiderman: I liked JMS's take: Spiderman wasn't accidently bitten - Anansi has plans.

I couldn't eat breakfast for years. I'd feel nauseated if I didn't wait to eat 'til at least half an hour after I'd wakened.

I agree that most breakfast foods are desserts.

I eat oatmeal. Which is, weirdly, more like beans than like other grains in terms of its nutritional qualities. Oatmeal cooked with dried blueberries and a bit of honey in it is about as sugary a breakfast as I can stand. Pinto beans and cheese is good, too. I used to have that on a tortilla, the cheese melted on top.

The best breakfast is a piece of baked salmon. Well, for people who, unlike Gwyd, eat that. Yesterday I ate leftover spaghetti for breakfast.

See, the beans and cheese tortilla thing sounds more sensible.

These days, I have to wait and hour or more to eat after I get up because of the med schedule, and since no one is looking I tend to eat dinner type foods. I am most likely to eat breakfast foods with my last eat with food meds of the night.

I'm a big fan of the oatmeal/fruit combination, though I know it's a bad blood sugar choice. (No blueberries for me do to childhood oversaturation.

Actually, I understand that oatmeal stableizes blood sugar. So long as it's not the sugar-loaded pre-overcooked instant kind ( ... )

I don't care for raisins just generally. The dried cherries sound lovely. I've never made non-instant oatmeal and am not entirely sure how to go about it.

That's been the strangest thing about this pregnancy. I'm having to eat at least a token breakfast. Even if it's just a piece of jerky and some dried fruit.

You know... I rather dislike Spiderman too. He's always kind of bored me at best and infuriated me at worst. Raimi's Spiderman is like an Emo Kid trying to be like Batman's scary goth and failing. I don't blame TM for it, as he's playing the role he's given well. The role sucketh.

I don't blame Toby MaGuire any more than I blame Will Wheaton, Michelle Trautenberg, or that poor young man who played Connor on Angel. The acting is fine; it's how the character is written.
