thoughts on "Hostage Crisis"

For once I got to see an episode of the Clone Wars when it aired! So I thought I would write up my thoughts. And it really is just random thoughts, not a formal review.

~ While I was glad to see more Anakin/Padme interaction, I thought it was rather stilted and not very well done. I was a bit surprised that they had Anakin come right out and say ( Read more... )

Hi, I'm the other new back-up editor at jedi_news. Just wanted to say hello. :)

I like your observations about "Hostage Crisis". "Enhanced Privacy Invasion Bill" sounds ridiculous; it's surprising that more people haven't commented on this. And I agree that there were some big plot holes in the Anakin/Padmé scene at the beginning. I wondered too why Padmé kept the lightsaber.

Hi, nice to meet you. :)

By now I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that TCW is full of plotholes. But enjoyable nonetheless.

I looked at your journal and saw that you ship Palpatine/Padme - that's really cool! I remember looking for fic about those two when I first entered the fandom, and not finding much. It's a pity, because their relationship is really interesting, though I'm mostly a genfic fan.

I'm curious - did you like the episode "Senate Spy"?

I'm mostly a genfic fan too. Though one of my friends somehow makes me write Anakin/Padmé. I think she has strange and evil Force powers. ;)

I didn't really like "Senate Spy." Partly because I don't like the fact that when Padme finally gets to do something, it has to involve seducing someone - it smacks of the attitude that women are defined by sexuality, and I hate that. And partly because I didn't like the way they handled Anakin/Padme (I think I'm the only A/P shipper who didn't like it, though). I thought it was weird that Padme would get mad about Anakin's leaving to go to work when in "Hostage Crisis" she was the one who wouldn't abandon work to go on a vacation with him. I also thought it was out of character for Anakin to "forbid" her to go, on the grounds that it's "too dangerous." Although Anakin deeply fears losing the people he loves, in the actual movies that doesn't translate into overprotectiveness (he has no problem with Padme's putting herself in danger in AotC). I can think of ways to explain away the OOCness on both counts, but overall it felt like they just wrote a stock romantic conflict (male: you can't do that, it's too dangerous! female: shut ( ... )
