I'd never heard this legend before so the whole story and the way you had River and Jayne reflect Iara and Jaguarari was captivating. I really enjoyed this!

Iara is a very popular character of our folklore (I'm Brazilian) and here everybody knows her legend, but I was afraid my story wouldn't work too well with those who had never heard of her - which would be the majority of the fandom, I suppose! - so I tried to tell Iara's story as well as River and Jayne's.

That was an interesting story. I must admit, the tales of Iara and Jaguarari are among the few I'd never heard before. Very interesting; kind of like a demonic version of The Little Mermaid. I loved the story, though.

Yes, Iara is our version of a mermaid, though she isn't half-fish in all of the versions I've heard.

Iara is probably one of the most popular characters of our folklore, and every kid in Brazil grows up listening to stories of her, but I'll admit I've only found out about Jaguarari when I was doing research for this fic - and the description of the best and most handsome warrior in the tribe made think of Jayne right away!
