Mid-term exams

Nov 19, 2015 12:50

I'm having a lot of anxiety right now, waking up every night with nightmares. I went back on anti-depressants, but I think I'm not really depressed so much as anxious, and I'm not anxious for mal-adaptive reasons, I'm anxious because I'm experiencing the grown-up version of exams ( Read more... )

How could you not have massive anxiety with all that?
Sending well wishes for all to go as smoothly as possible...

You have two grown children and one nearly grown, none of whom sound particularly learning disabled. You're very methodical by nature and I bet you can write a decent set of instructions.

Leave each one a list of things to do for Thanksgiving dinner. Make sure all your guests know that they did it, in case they fail at something. Let it go. Even one less thing on your plate will be enough to take a straw or two off your camel's back.

If they fail miserably, you have at least 20 or 30 more Thanksgiving dinners to enjoy in your life. Better than having no more Thanksgiving dinners because you've driven yourself to a stroke.

Because I am disabled and actually can't always do the cooking, I found out over the past few years that any food my children make me is basically the most delicious thing I have ever eaten.

Her grown children already do the lion's share of the Thanksgiving cooking and have for years--I leave HER (or, perhaps more accurately, Dad) a detailed methodical list of what needs to be bought beforehand and what three or so dishes they're responsible for. It's just that I don't live there to do the lion's share of the grocery shopping before Wednesday night and I don't do the turkey itself, so there's enough on their plate to make it an extra to-do item to keep track of.

This is true. Back in 2007 or so I had surgery and was out of commission for Thanksgiving, and you really stepped up to the plate back then and have been doing a major part of the cooking since then.

But I'm cleaning the entire house and washing linens and making beds and I'm very very happy to do it, but it does take time and it's on a deadline.

I stand corrected, screened poster. I live in a bubble with grocery delivery. :)

I take on huge things because I can DO huge things.

This is so so true.  I admire this about you so much and it's also clear your children were lucky enough to inherit this from you.  But the nightmares etc worry me.  Good luck. I hope things take a turn for the better really soon.
