Heading to Alabama

I am on my way to a professional conference in Alabama, a place I have never been.

But I do know enough about traveling to the South that I stopped in the restroom and put on makeup before my flight.

Women in New England simply don't wear makeup. It is startling how different it is when I go other places.

On Wednesday, I walked right into the library where I will be working with not one bit of makeup on, and wearing baggy jeans, Dansko clogs, old tshirt, and a hoodie. I am such a rebel.

I think I have to work harder to establish my credentials if I don't dress myself in the business uniform. It just makes me feel too defensive if I am casual.
