I read once that people who compost feel virtuous. It was said in half-mockery or disdain, but...I get it. I think of it as more awe-inspiring or wondrous, myself: that we can take our trash and turn it into the most nurturing substance for growing food, and that last winter's leftovers make next winter's food stores.
I like the idea of passing it along, sharing the black gold wealth the way we also share cuttings and starts.
So, here's a note to myself for the future. I filled and capped the compost bin on the right at the end of August, 2014. I didn't stir it, but I did cover it with (sandy) soil and water it well and cover it. Let's see how long it takes to become useable.
Meanwhile, the bin on the left just got started being filled. Let's see how long it takes to fill it. Hopefully the same amount of time it takes for the other bin to get cured.
