The first thing you need to know if you are ever going to go to Rome is to book a guided tour of the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and Saint Peter's Basilica. I'm really loving these posts from Italy!

The tour of the Vatican sounds like a total zoo though. Haha. Even with crowd control. Sort of like the Louvre on a bad day, let's say, when the rapid-guide tours from all three East Asian countries (Korea China and Japan) have an unfortunate convergence in arrival times.

to get around the zoo you need to go without a tour group - buy the ticket online, then avoid the main corridor. There are lots of side galleries that get comparatively little traffic.

Some places you can't avoid the zoo, though. Sistine Chapel, for example.
