I've often wondered what part of the economy would collapse if people stopped buying useless chatchkes for gifts- the type that go straight in the trash or to salvation army.

Some days I wish it were possible to get married without having to have in-laws. Because that would be awesome.

LOL. I married an orphan. Voila, no in-laws.

(I suppose technically he's not an orphan, his parents just died over ten years before we ever met. As you get older, the in-laws tend to thin out a bit.)

Step one: write her a gracious note saying simply "thank you for thinking of me, I am wishing you a wonderful new year."

Step two: toss her present in the trash.

Step three: switch the order of steps one and two.
