My hope--not that I'm willing to place any wagers, mind you--is that Obama's decision to ask Congress to authorize the use of force is a plan to get out of the corner he's painted into. Congress won't pass any authorization--they can't pass anything at all, and in this case especially, many Democrats will oppose it because they oppose war in general, and most of the Republicans will oppose anything that Obama wants.
And so, when both Congress and the United Nations refuse to put their stamp of approval on any action, the President can say, "Oh well, I wanted to do something about this, but, you know...separation of powers." And then the two parties and the branches of government they control can relax and blame each other for the consequences of inaction and our young Americans will not be thrown into a pit of death and misery.
Like I said, that's my hope. John Boehner praising the idea of military strikes does not encourage my hope.
You conveniently left out the "likely to increase" option, instead obscuring that perspective amongst "other"s.
If this were a political tracking poll from a media outlet, I'd immediately accuse it of an inability to follow the truth where ever it led, and a bias in favor of "the home team".
With Gadaffi and Mubarak as counter examples, do you really want to send the message to every dictator that the way to avoid their fate and stay in power is to stockpile and use chemical weapons? How is it that so many people understand that dogs can be trained, and how to do it, and that children can be trained, and how to do it, but don't understand that governments can also be trained?
