I was exhausted this afternoon and laid down on the couch for a moment.  River takes that to mean that I want her to drop a sopping wet tennis ball in my lap.  She did, and I threw it.  It hit the shelf in the corner that is filled with albums.  LPs.  Vinyl ( Read more... )

I mourn the B&O 8000 that finally bit the dust last year. A lot of jazz I have will probably never come out digital; and if it does, it'll just be raw sampled from some analog master. Some stuff just didn't come through as well remastered from the original analog without some real smarts about the higher notes.

And I am looking for the "give rep points to the poster" button for the choice of ELO; through serious speakers one starts to realize the sheer music theory genius/madness Lynne had back then.

I just posted last week or so on FB asking if there was ANYONE who could hear ELO come on [n the car] and *not* start singing along. <3 ELO

We still use our turntable and LPs.

And yet, both of those ancient paradigms have properties in demand today which during their peak, were never sources of value. Both are forms of distribution unencumbered by DRM. You bought them once, and you are licensed to use them until they turn to dust, not each time you want to read about an era long gone, or listen to a one-hit wonder 50 times over.

Vinyl is seeing a renaissance for its glorious lack of audio compression.

While I don't think you'll ever be at risk at being considered a futurist, the slow and steady pace may ultimate keep you informed and entertained.
